About the Author

The author, W.A. Hawkes-Robinson ("Hawke Robinson"), is nearing completion of an Interdisciplinary bachelor's degree through Eastern Washington University (EWU) with a focus on Therapeutic Recreation, Music Therapy, Neuroscience, and Research Psychology. He may continue on towards masters and doctoral programs in these related disciplines.

Hawke has been registered with the Washington State Department of Health as a Recreation Therapist since September 2014. He is a member in good standing with the Washington State Therapeutic Recreation Association (WSTRA) and the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Hawke plans to sit for the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification  (NCTRC) Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) test, but is still in the process of completing educational and internship prerequisites.

Generally, unless otherwise stated in a specific document or posting, the work here on the website is not approved or overseen by EWU or other entities, and is the product of independent effort by Hawkes-Robinson. As a student there may be postings or content that, if specifically stated, may have been undertaken as part of his student coursework. Unless a posting or content item states that it was in some way associated with EWU, all other work is NOT associated with EWU. This is also true for other entities where Hawke may have volunteered or provided services in any way (e.g. Saint Luke's Rehabilitation, The PAVE Group, The Eastern Washington Center for Deaf & Hard of Hearing (EWCDHH), Campfire USA, Camp Dart-lo, The Boy Scouts of America, Rockwood Physical Therapy, The Domino Project, etc.).

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

Unless specifically stated in a release, document, essay, blog posting, news posting, or other content item, the projects and content on the RPG Research & RPG Therapeutics LLC website(s) have NOT undergone Institutional Review Board (IRB) submission, review, waiver, or approval. Unless otherwise specifically indicated, the work is the product of independent efforts by W.A. Hawkes-Robinson.

There are a number of upcoming research projects in the queue that are planned for submission to IRB scrutiny, both at universities, and through private-pay IRB services.

The website is intended as a portal/aggregator/repository of information related to the therapeutic and educational effects and uses of role-playing games.

In relation to the RPG Research Project it is hoped the research data will indicate methods for developing effective therapeutic modalities using role-playing games for treatment of diverse populations and needs including but not limited to: the Deaf Community, depression, PTSD, anxiety management, social skills development, targeted educational goals, targeted skills development, at-risk youth, Autism Spectrum DIsorders (ASD), ADD/ADHD, traumatic brain injury recovery, and other areas.

Process & Peer Review

Unless specifically stated in a release or content item, there has not been any form of peer review by any entity. Unless otherwise specifically indicated, the work is solely the product of independent efforts by W.A. Hawkes-Robinson.

While some of the original essays on this site may have undergone iterations of some (student) peer review, and some professor(s) review as part of a course, the longer versions of the original essays on this site most likely have not undergone the same editing and pairing down to meet the classroom page count restrictions. The longer versions of these essays are posted to help the community increase awareness of projects and information growing in the studies related to the therapeutic and educational aspects of role-playing games.

The News and Blog postings do not undergo any sort of review process, and are generally just postings of information that seem relevant and interesting to those curious about the role-playing game industry, and other topics.

The Blog postings are generally the least formal, ranging from important announcements to casual thoughts on (relevant) topics.

The News postings tend to be more formal than the Blog postings.

The documents on this website generally do not undergo formal peer review process, however, useful feedback is always appreciated as the RPG Research Project slowly gains momentum, and continues to "debug" the process.

The RPG Research Project & Website

The RPG Research Project Website does not undergo any formal peer review process. The website is currently a repository of information, created and run by the project founder, Hawke Robinson. The site and the project are not endorsed, approved, recognized, or supported in any way by Eastern Washington University or any other organization.
